The fullest I have ever felt in my life was from eating sushi.
Every time I eat sushi rolls I overeat.
Every. Single. Time.
They say it’s the rice expanding in your belly.
But I say it’s a Business 101 lesson (or Life 101).
You will always overestimate where you will be by tomorrow.
You will always underestimate where you will be a year from now.
What the heck does this have to do with sushi? Or Business?
Hear me out 😉
Sushi rolls come in bite size pieces.
Eating just “one more piece” isn’t hard to stomach.
In fact, it’s way too easy to do.
After finishing a piece of sushi, you have no problem starting on the next piece.
This is because you don’t have any commitment to finishing the entire roll.
You only think about that next small bite.
And remembering how the hell to hold the chopsticks…
(maybe that’s just me)
Before you know it you’re 5,000 calories deep.
The same principle applies to your business.
When I started back in January, my only commitments were:
I would not quit
I only had to do 1 thing a day
That last bullet is absolutely key.
“I only had to do one thing a day”.
Most of starting and running a business is doing the ordinary boring things for an extraordinary amount of time.
Some days that 1 thing is answering the phone and talking to a customer.
Some days that 1 thing is writing a job posting.
Some days that 1 thing is updating my Terms and Conditions.
Some days that 1 thing is asking a customer for a Google review.
Some days that 1 thing is stopping myself from not complicating something simple.
Some days that 1 thing turns into 10 other things.
Most days it is just “one more bite” and nothing too daunting.
There isn’t a day where I don’t want to “take one more bite” after doing the 1 thing.
The hardest part is starting with 1 thing.
Most days you will be disappointed with the progress you have made.
At the end of the year you’ll be absolutely shocked by what you’ve accomplished.
So go eat some sushi.
And here is a tip on how to hold those chopsticks.
