I know what you’re thinking and it’s not that…
Silicon Valley does have a fascination with drugs and microdosing.
But I digress…
This is about Microdosing Goals.
In reflecting over 2024, I can say the following unequivocally.
You will overestimate what you can accomplish in the short-term (this week)
You will underestimate what you will accomplish in the long-term (EOY)
(re-read that a bunch of times or don’t)
There wasn’t a week that went by where I didn’t feel like I was failing in 2024.
Maybe I should talk to a therapist or go on longer walks.
Sure, I had a few highs and wins.
But it’s true.
I always thought I should be or would be further along than I was on any given day or week.
The funny thing is, I was shocked when I reviewed progress in 2024.
There were metrics we hit that shocked me in a good way.
2024 Highlights (aka subtle flexes)
The business cleaned 110 homes.
My cleaners spent over 350 hours cleaning homes.
We paid our cleaners more $$ than I made in my first year after college (one could argue this isn’t impressive but it is wild to think about).
We cleaned the most expensive mansion listed in Cincinnati in 2024 (this is a story all to itself).
We hired 5 amazing cleaners who love what they do and have taught me more than I could have imagined.
I learned more in 12 months than I learned in the last 5 years combined (subjective but true IMO)
I truly don’t say these to flex.
In fact, the business didn’t turn a profit in 2024.
i.e. I started a business with absolutely no overhead and still didn’t make a dime.
Let that sink in…
We didn't hit any of the business goals I set in the beginning of 2024.
We were 83% to our business goals (I’ll talk about goals in a later post).
But if you would have told me we would have achieved those highlights, I would have said you were nuts.
I remember trying to hire my 1st cleaner 2 months into this adventure.
Read 100+ resumes 🤓
Interviewed 20 people 😑
Didn’t hire any of them 😶
Burned $350 on Indeed ads 🤬
Each month I thought I would be further along than I was.
Each week felt like I was digressing.
But I microdosed 💉towards my big goals each day.
Microdosing is doing the ordinary things for an extraordinary length of time (insert famous person who I stole this from but can’t remember their name).
Microdosing isn’t fancy, flashy, or intense.
Microdosing is answering the phone (even if it is the 15th spammer of the day).
Microdosing is reading a chapter in a business book.
Microdosing is telling a customer you don’t have any availability because you know they will cause you more pain than it’s worth.
Microdosing is paying your sales tax on time each month (subtle tip💡).
Microdosing is asking a customer for a Google review.
The point here is Microdosing is showing up each day and doing the boring things longer than anyone else.
Do the boring things longer than anyone else and you’ll be shocked where you’ll end up.
So what are you Microdosing in 2025?
Extra Credit:
Silicon Valley’s fascination with microdosing is a real thing.
*Not condoning this

Tommy,
Currently following the Cleaning Company Blueprint on YT and came across your video with them on the channel.
I’m afraid to make the leap. I also have a full time job (career firefighter) and will be balancing the two. I would like to start small, and scale like you.
With such a small start-up cost, what got in the way of you turning a profit in 2024? Any advice?
Cheers!
We should add “lessons learned” as an early stage KPI. Congrats on a great start!
